Terms of Service

HalBites Ltd ("HalBites", "we", "us", "our") operates the HalBites platform at halbites.co.uk — a halal-exclusive food marketplace connecting verified halal restaurants and food vendors ("Sellers") with customers ("Buyers") in the United Kingdom.

By accessing or using the HalBites platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use our platform.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and HalBites Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.

You must be at least 18 years old to use HalBites. By creating an account, you confirm that you are 18 or over. HalBites reserves the right to terminate accounts where this requirement is not met.

You must be a UK resident or have a valid UK delivery address to place orders.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password with anyone. HalBites will never ask for your password.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at help@halbites.co.uk if you suspect unauthorised access.

HalBites reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or misrepresent halal status.

All Sellers on HalBites are required to hold a valid halal certificate from a recognised certifying body (including but not limited to HMC, HFA, or IFANCA) at the time of registration and on an ongoing basis.

HalBites verifies certificates at the time of application and monitors expiry dates. However, HalBites does not independently audit the halal status of individual food products or preparation practices. The responsibility for maintaining halal standards lies with the Seller.

If you have concerns about the halal status of a product or seller, contact us at help@halbites.co.uk and we will investigate.

Sellers found to have misrepresented their halal certification will be immediately suspended and may face legal action.

Orders are fulfilled by Sellers. HalBites acts as the marketplace platform and, for payment purposes, as the merchant of record.

Payments are processed securely via Stripe. For card orders, payment is collected by HalBites as merchant of record, and the Seller's earnings — the order value less an 11% platform commission on the food subtotal — are paid out to the Seller. For cash-on-delivery orders, the Seller collects payment directly from the Buyer, and the platform commission on those orders is recorded as an outstanding balance the Seller settles with HalBites.

Founding Sellers pay 0% platform commission during their founding period; a card processing fee of 2% applies to their card orders, and cash orders are free.

Orders are subject to Seller acceptance. Sellers must accept or reject orders within 15 minutes. Orders not responded to within this window are automatically cancelled and refunded.

Prices displayed on HalBites are set by Sellers and are inclusive of any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.

A buyer service fee applies to all orders. Cash-on-delivery orders carry an additional COD fee. All fees are shown clearly at checkout before you confirm your order.

Buyers may cancel an order within 15 minutes of placing it, provided the Seller has not yet accepted it.

Sellers may cancel an order before acceptance. Repeated cancellations may result in account suspension.

Once an order is accepted by the Seller, cancellation is at the Seller's discretion. Any special requests for an order should be added at checkout using the notes field. If a Seller cancels an accepted order or an issue arises with your order, you can raise a refund request directly from your order page — see our Refund Policy for details.

Refund requests must be raised within 24 hours of the scheduled delivery time. Given the perishable nature of food products, requests made after this window will not be accepted.

Refunds may be issued in the following circumstances:

• The order was not delivered
• The order was significantly different from what was described
• The food was unfit for consumption upon delivery
• The Seller cancelled the order after acceptance

Refunds are processed within 5–10 business days to the original payment method. HalBites' Refund Policy applies — see our full Refund Policy.

Sellers agree to:

• Maintain a valid halal certificate at all times and upload renewals before expiry
• Accurately describe all products including ingredients and allergens
• Fulfil accepted orders in a timely manner
• Not list non-halal products on the platform
• Comply with all applicable UK food safety and hygiene regulations
• Pay the applicable subscription fee and 11% platform commission (Founding Sellers are exempt from both during their founding period, subject to a 2% card processing fee on card orders)

Sellers who fail to meet these obligations may have their listings suspended or accounts terminated without refund of subscription fees.

Sellers are legally required under UK food labelling law to declare the 14 major allergens in their products. HalBites requires Sellers to include allergen information in their product descriptions.

However, HalBites cannot guarantee the accuracy of allergen information provided by Sellers. If you have a severe allergy, contact the Seller directly before ordering.

HalBites accepts no liability for allergic reactions resulting from inaccurate allergen information provided by Sellers.

All content on the HalBites platform — including the HalBites name, logo, design, and software — is owned by HalBites Ltd and protected by UK and international intellectual property law.

Sellers retain ownership of the content they upload (product photos, descriptions) but grant HalBites a non-exclusive licence to display that content on the platform.

You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the HalBites platform without our written permission.

HalBites is a marketplace platform. We are not the Seller of food products and are not responsible for the quality, safety, or halal status of products sold by Sellers beyond our verification obligations.

To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, HalBites' total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the platform is limited to the value of the order in question.

HalBites is not liable for any indirect, consequential, or special damages, including loss of profit or loss of data.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of HalBites shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

HalBites may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before material changes take effect. Continued use of the platform after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
